With the end of the legislative session today, all bills must be passed before midnight. In March, Hartford’s Senator John Fonfara proposed a bill that would make sure that Batchelder School would stay open for students currently in grades PK-4 and then the building would be shared with Montessori Magnet students. In addition to our own complaint that would keep Batchelder School open, the Senator’s bill had extra protections for Batchelder School.

We are now hearing that the Senator has dropped his support for Batchelder parents and students, thus agreeing with the Hartford school board’s outrageous plan to close the building, displace Batchelder school’s students, and give the building to Montessori Magnet school.
