On May 2, 2018, Parents for Batchelder attended the State Board of Education meeting to ask Commissioner Wentzell to move forward on our complaint to save Batchelder School. The Commissioner’s legal team has delayed our complaint that alleges that Batchelder is being unlawfully closed and the students forced to attend more racially isolated schools.
The Commissioner and State Board have the power to move the complaint forward, but are refusing to that because of pending legislation from Senator Fonfara that would keep Batchelder open, but the building would be shared with the Montessori Magnet. Parents for Batchelder also sent a letter recently to the State asking that this complaint move forward because the harm to parents and students continues at the school and stopping the school closure would make Senator Fonfara’s bill unnecessary.
